FAQ.

Below are some of the most common questions. Feel free to email us with additional ones.

  1. What is Reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates combines the traditional principles and movements of mat Pilates with a Reformer machine. This machine contains a foot bar, carriage, pulleys, and five springs of varying tension that can be adjusted to suit your fitness level or needs.

  2. How is Reformer Pilates different from mat-based Pilates?
Reformer Pilates is similar to, yet very different from, mat-based Pilates. Reformer Pilates uses the Pilates reformer machine and is generally more intense and dynamic than mat-based Pilates as it adds resistance to the Pilates exercises by using the springs that form part of the machine.
You could argue that Reformer Pilates is superior to mat-based Pilates as the repertoire of exercises available is greatly increased, providing far more variety. The exercises usually work muscles through a large range of motion, which is ideal for building and toning muscles as well as increasing stability through the joints. Reformer Pilates works more areas than matwork, as matwork is mostly core, whereas reformer works the entire body and the peripheral muscles of the arms and legs.

  3. What can I expect from attending private sessions?
Reformer Pilates helps you to find length and space in the body while under spring tension. Far from just a workout for your core, the machine helps create internal pressure to elongate the spine, joints, and muscles, leading to greater flexibility, strength, stamina, and a more balanced posture. This type of physical and mental workout is relevant, especially now, due to lifestyle factors such as long working days, being seated for long periods, and mental health aspects, to name just a few.

  4. Do you offer beginner sessions?
We do. All sessions are tailored to your level of experience and individual needs. If it is your first time taking Reformer, we will allow for extra time or even a few sessions to go over the basics so that we can build your confidence and technique.

  5. I’ve not worked out in a while. Is Reformer Pilates for me?
Pilates is for anybody and everybody—and the reformer is there to help us all. From rehab clients who need the support of the springs to enhance their recovery to desk workers who sit too much, pro athletes, and anyone on a pre- or postnatal fitness journey, Reformer Pilates is complementary to all lifestyles.

  6. I’m in great shape. Will Reformer Pilates challenge me?
100 percent! Reformers are for those who work out regularly because they can target specific muscle groups. The machines can be used for rehabbing injuries and building functional strength and endurance. In fact, a growing number of professional athletes are turning to Pilates to give them an edge over the competition. Ask us about our athletic programs.

  7. How do I get started?
It’s easy! Just go to our scheduling page and pick a time on the calendar that works for you. You will receive an email once your session has been confirmed with the details and starter forms to complete.

  8. Where are the classes?
All the classes are held at 59-32 Summerfield St, Ridgewood, NY 11385.

  9. How long are the sessions?
All classes are 50 minutes long.

  10. Can I book more than one session?
Absolutely. If you plan to schedule more than one session, you’ll find our packages to be of great value. Visit our schedule page for more information.

  11. What’s your cancellation policy?
Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice. While we understand that life happens, your instructor will wait 15 minutes for your arrival in case of a no-show or lateness to an in-person or virtual appointment. All no-shows and late arrivals of over 15 minutes will be considered late cancellations and are not eligible for a credit or refund. All time lost due to late arrivals will be forfeited.

  12. I have a medical condition. Can I still book a class?
Yes, you can. Before we start our first session, we will review your goals and discuss any restrictions we need to consider. If you have instructions from your doctor, physical therapist, or massage therapist, send these notes when you complete the waivers, and we will review them together during our introductory session.

  13. What should I bring to our session?
Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothes made out of stretchy materials. It will help you exercise without restraint. Loose, baggy clothing makes moving difficult and prevents the instructor from observing your form. Grip socks are mandatory. Bring a water bottle and a towel. You do not need to bring any equipment.

  14. How long does it take to see results from Reformer Pilates?
Like any other exercise method, how long it takes to see results will depend on many factors, including how often you exercise, whether you're recovering properly, genetics, and nutrition. Looking for more of a timeline on your Reformer Pilates benefits? Joseph Pilates states: "In 10 sessions, you will feel the difference; in 20 days, you will see the difference; and in 30 days, you will have a whole new body."
